Dawn B. Simpson

Dawn Simpson is a Director in GAO’s Financial Management and Assurance team. She oversees the annual audits of the U.S. government’s consolidated financial statements and the Internal Revenue Service, as well as issues involving debt and cash management. Dawn is GAO’s expert on public debt auditing, and has served as the agency’s representative to the International Supreme Audit Institution’s Working Group on Public Debt since 2011.

Dawn joined GAO as an auditor in 1997. Prior to becoming a Director, Dawn served as an Assistant Director in FMA since 2004, leading major federal financial statement audit efforts.

Dawn earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in accounting from the University of Kentucky. She is a Certified Public Accountant and a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Association of Government Accountants.
