Elizabeth Field is a Director in GAO’s Defense Capabilities and Management team. She oversees DOD’s management of its business operations and associated reform efforts designed to reduce costs, increase efficiencies, and improve effectiveness. Her portfolio also addresses DOD’s management of its installations and defense support infrastructure, including military housing.

Elizabeth joined GAO in February, 2002, and primarily worked in the International Affairs and Trade team. In 2010, Elizabeth went to work for the Office of the Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction, where she held a number of positions, including Chief of Staff and Assistant Inspector General for Audits and Inspections. In 2014, Elizabeth accepted a position as Senior Advisor to the Under Secretary of State for Civilian Security, Democracy, and Human Rights. Elizabeth’s work entailed supporting the Under Secretary in strengthening the strategic planning, knowledge management, and monitoring and evaluation efforts of the bureaus and offices reporting to her. Elizabeth returned to GAO in September 2017 as a member of the SES candidate class.

Elizabeth earned a master’s degree in Public Policy from Duke University and a bachelor’s degree in History from Davidson College.
