Derrick Collins

Derrick Collins is an Acting Director in GAO’s Homeland Security and Justice team. He oversees portions of the Justice and Law Enforcement portfolio, including firearms, among other issues.

Derrick joined GAO in March 2001. Prior to joining HSJ, Derrick served as an Assistant Director in the Physical Infrastructure (PI) team where he led reviews focused on a variety of postal and telecommunications issues, including the U.S. Postal Service’s (USPS) business model, illegal opioid shipments, wireless internet access for low-income students, and oversight of key internet technical functions.

Prior to joining GAO, he served as a Community Development Specialist for the Injury Prevention Center, Parkland Health and Hospital System. He also worked for the City of Denton, Texas as the Human Services Coordinator.

Derrick earned a master’s degree in public affairs from LBJ School of Public Affairs, University of Texas at Austin and a bachelor’s degree in social welfare from the University of California at Berkeley.
