Seven law enforcement agencies in the Departments of Homeland Security (DHS) and Justice (DOJ) reported using facial recognition services to support criminal investigations. 2 of the 7 agencies require staff to take facial recognition training, as of April 2023. Not all agencies had policies or guidance specific to facial recognition technology that address civil rights and civil liberties. GAO's recommendations address these issues and more.
