ASKGAOLive: Recruitment of Student Veterans

Posted on May 13, 2014

Veterans face many challenges as they consider and enroll in colleges and universities. Join us for a live chat about GAO’s work on student veterans’ issues this Wednesday, May 14, 2014, at 2:00 pm ET. You can send us your questions in advance via e-mail or on Twitter using #AskGAOLive.

In fiscal year 2013, the Department of Veterans Affairs provided more than $12 billion in benefits for veterans’ post-secondary education. However, questions have been raised about whether some schools are receiving these funds as a result of inappropriate recruiting practices. Melissa Emrey-Arras, a director in our Education, Workforce, and Income Security team, will discuss the findings of our recent evaluation of schools’ recruiting practices, and answer your questions about this and other GAO work on veterans and higher education.
