Open
This recommendation remains open as of January 2024. U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) officials said they have temporarily suspended employee use of non-federal facial recognition technology. In addition, FWS officials said the Department of the Interior is drafting department-wide guidance on facial recognition technology which, once implemented, will allow FWS to update its own facial recognition policy and address this recommendation. Once complete, we will review the policy to determine the extent that it addresses our recommendation.
