Courtney LaFountain is an Acting Director in GAO’s Financial Markets and Community Investment team. She oversees audits related to economic development and small businesses.

Courtney joined GAO in July 2009 as a member of the Applied Research and Methods team, where she contributed economic and econometric analyses to audits on a range of topics, including financial markets regulation, unemployment insurance, worker and family assistance, and state and local government fiscal health. She has also led reviews covering the economic effects of a large federal pandemic assistance program, conditions in parts of the economy targeted by the federal pandemic response, a high-profile federal agency relocation, and economic effects of natural disasters.

Courtney earned bachelor’s degrees in economics and mathematics, a master’s degree in economics, and a Ph.D. in economics, all from Washington University in Saint Louis.
